Cutie Cameras’ Choice Cuts: “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”

One of my favorite books is, “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky. The story’s main character is Charlie, a shy, introvert going into his first year of high school. The book features letters written by Charlie about his experiences addressed to an anonymous stranger.

The book has many memorable quotes including, “we accept the love we think we deserve,” and of course…

I have read this book twice now and each time have come away with a different experience. I think the main reason I love this book is because it demonstrates the feelings we all had at some point during high school. The confusion towards dating, the loneliness when we see the person we love with another, the experience of getting your license. This book brings me back to all of those firsts.

It is Chbosky’s words through Charlie that resonate with me and so many other readers.

I will warn you that this book gets a bit dark. It may make you cry. I think that is part of the power of it. The book digs deep down and makes you feel sadness, anger, joy, and love.

If you have read it or do end up reading it, make sure you tell me. I would love to hear your view of the book.

  1. who didn’t love this book in high school?! The best.
I refused to see the movie because I couldn’t allow the book to be ruined for me. I see that you say the movie was pretty true to feel… still don’t think I can do it!

    • I totally understand. I personally really enjoyed the movie but I get being nervous about it not lining up with the book. Regardless, I am glad you share my love for this wonderful book!
